CONTEXT
A few years ago, the property developer Karberghus acquired Langelinieskuret, a building over 130 years old designed by Copenhagen’s renowned historic architect, Vilhelm Dahlerup. Previously, the building’s retail space was highly commercial, consisting mainly
of outlet stores. However, Karberghus’s new rental strategy focuses on creative shops and cultural events (including the ceramics studio Studio Arhoj, the Michelin-starred restaurant Koan, and the cultural entrepreneurs Royalties), aiming to attract a diverse audience across generations and breathe new life into the area and the building.
the task
Historically, the area around Langelinieskuret
was a popular spot for Copenhagen’s elite.
Today, the number of visitors is much lower,
despite the area’s cultural potential.
VOLCANO has assisted Karberghus with the creative programming of the building. We have developed an urban life strategy for the area and curated cultural content to encourage people to spend more time in the area, engage in activities, form new communities, and invest their time and money.
results / value creation
Already, after just 9 months, the investment in the area’s creative programming has shown concrete returns in the form of increased life and activity:
- Concerts: Featuring young, up-and-coming musicians and artists, with growing attendance at each event.
- Recreational Events: Events like yoga sessions are fully booked, bringing more life and activity to the building and its surroundings.
- Increased Interest: There’s growing interest in Langelinieskuret from organizations such as the Danish Architecture Center and Wonderful Copenhagen, leading to a partnership with the latter to make Langelinieskuret a cultural destination for both locals and tourists.
- Social Media Engagement: Increased activity and interest are evident through higher engagement on Langelinieskuret’s social channels, with a steadily growing number of followers.
