The New Hub for Citizens and Young Cultural Entrepreneurs in Nordhavn

CONTEXT
Nordhus is a new cultural center in the heart of Nordhavn, Copenhagen, designed to be a launchpad into the cultural world for young people aged 18-25, and run by young cultural creators. The house opens its doors in the fall of 2024, bringing together cultural experiences, jobs, learning opportunities, and youth housing under one roof.
the task
VOLCANO has supported Nordhus from
the concept stage to the present, as the house
prepares to open. This fall, VOLCANO will
operate the cultural creator training program
for Nordhus’ 39 residents.
DELIVERABLES / results
During the conceptualization phase, VOLCANO assisted with local citizen and stakeholder engagement, youth dialogues, and a comprehensive creative placemaking process
that defined Nordhus’s DNA, functions, and it’s
focus on youth, music, creative entrepreneurship, and gastronomy as the pillars of Nordhus.
As part of the process, VOLCANO also helped program the building, emphasizing the community-building, citizen-involving, and experiential role the house will play for Copenhagen. This includes a proposal catalog for the house’s activation, such
as communal dining, concerts, and more.
